The Old Post Office and Clock Tower is a D.C. landmark. Purchased as the site of a new luxury hotel, revitalization of the building required extreme care to preserve its more than 100 years of history.
Glass & Mirror Craft assisted with the renovation of more than two dozen interior doorways throughout the building, providing metal threshold and hardware components along with the inset glass. Materials and methods of integration were carefully selected to ensure the surroundings would be impacted as little as possible. Because each entryway’s conditions were different—from marble to wood, framed to frameless—Glass & Mirror Craft worked with the building’s approval board to carefully track each and ensure they were developed to specs using precise materials that held historic value.
Cuda Metals by Glass & Mirror Craft provided custom hardware that matched the chosen finish for each entrance in rich, solid high-gloss and satin brass, and designed handles that mimicked those used elsewhere in the building. After reviewing the original project specs, Glass & Mirror Craft brought additional value by recommending more versatile components that could be easily updated and reused should the finishes change in the future.
The Trump International Hotel is now open to the public. Visitors can experience and appreciate the building’s legacy, maintained and updated for the modern era through Glass & Mirror Craft’s expertise and attention to detail.
