The historic Detroit Athletic Club has been a fixture of the city for more than 100 years. Designed by Albert Kahn in 1915, renovations to the building required a respect for the past, but an eye towards the future. The Club sought to add an exterior atrium that would maintain the original beauty of the building while creating a fully-sealed, high-design showpiece. They needed a trusted partner with the technical capabilities to fulfill the project and a design approach worthy of the beloved building.
Glass + Mirror Craft designed and fabricated a fully custom point-supported glass curtain wall system for maximum transparency and functionality. Advanced technology and carefully managed thickness calculations allowed for creation of seamless, over-sized 20-foot walls and clean 90 degree corners, enveloping visitors in stunning floor-to-ceiling glass.
Cuda Metals by Glass + Mirror Craft developed custom components for the curtain wall’s point supported system, along with the structure surrounding the vestibule’s portal. Glass + Mirror Craft provided a one-stop, expert experience, creating a comfortable barrier from the weather and a stunning first impression for Club guests.
