Glass & Mirror Craft’s fabricated glass options provide unlimited possibilities for your unique needs. GMC’S skilled fabricators cut, edge, drill and finish glass to specifications so that projects are on time.
The most common type of glass, which isn’t really “clear” at all, is often known as soda-lime glass. It is made from silicon dioxide, sodium oxide, lime, and several other chemicals, including iron compounds. Iron compounds give it a green tint that’s mostly seen at it’s edge and becomes more noticeable as glass becomes thicker.
Low-Iron Float Glass
Low-iron glass replaces iron compounds with other chemicles in order to remove the green tint and allow larger, thicker panels of glass to be used in new ways. The result is a truly “clear” glass.
Clear glass is etched with acid to create a uniformly translucent surface.
Adding chemical compounds to glass as it’s being formed changes its color, giving it a consistent tint throughout. Glass & Mirror Craft stocks three colors (bronze, gray, and green) with many other colors available by special order.
